Calorie Counting
Back in May when I was in NYC I noticed that the chain restaurants that we went to listed the nutritional values next to the menu item. Apparently, it is now required to show the nutritional values on the menus in NYC. So, I was pretty taken back when I saw how many calories even the "healthy" entrees have. So, I have been a little more conscience when I have been going out to eat. Granted, we still go out way more often than we should but we are getting better about eating at home. So, last night we had dinner at home and for dessert I thought we could walk over to Dairy Queen to have us a little treat. The first thing I noticed when we walked in...okay the dirty floor was the first thing I noticed but a quick second was the nutritional values poster that was hanging up. So, I drifted over to take a look at how bad this treat really was going to be for me. I think my mouth literally was hanging open and my eyes were bugging out of my head. I SO wanted something big and tasty smothered in chocolate and sprinkled with peanuts. I LOVE ice cream and I have been so good about exercising, but one of the large items I saw had 1300 calories!!! Okay, that ruined the whole experience for me. I ended up with a banana split which still had 520 calories, 13g fat, 94g carbs..73g of which were sugars. I couldn't even bring myself to eat the entire thing, although I came close. I know eating out isn't good for you but come on!!...I really didn't know it was THIS BAD for you!

Yeah. Eating out is hard to stomach sometimes. And dairy queens floors are disgusting. I really like their ice cream. So sometimes we just drive through then you don't think to much about the state of their restaurant.
wow, I always avoid the nutritional values that are posted, for that very reason! I guess I shouldn't it is much worse than I let myself believe.
My parents belonged to a Book of Mormon club. When they hosted, it was a tradition to have banana splits. I really looked forward to those nights and so did the club members. Funny, now I wouldn't be able to eat a banana split, but it sure still sounds good.
So funny. a couple days ago we stopped at jack in the box for breakfast and mike ordered like a huge meal with a bacon cheeseburger, large fries and large coke. I could not get over how he was eating like half the allotted calories for the day at 8 in the morning! it grosses you out when you the the calorie content........
Alright, this is Mike, I'm here at work not working. Now let me explain..... Ok, there's really no explaining that one. I do need to watch myself a lot more than I have been. But today I did pretty good. I left for work early to pick up my dry cleaning, so I stopped at the store and bought two hard boiled eggs and a light yogurt for breakfast. I also bought a salad for me to eat for lunch. But back to Jack in the Box. All you Utahn's don't even know what your missing out on. It took me a few years of living in California before I even tried it, (because of the Ecoli break-out in Utah when they tried opening them there). But they have some really tasty food. And as Nicole will attest to, I always eat weird foods for breakfast, ie burritos, hamburgers, chinese food, and of course the occassional bowl of ice cream. This should help everyone else feel a bit better about there own eating habits. your welcome.
You ruined all the fun of eating out by looking at the calories! Some things are better left unknown. Thanks for the reminder of how many calories ice cream has! I eat it almost every night!
Discusting! I hope that knowing all those facts will help me kick my ice cream habit-probably not!
I've just started counting calories and i totally feel ya on this one. I know that it's 610 calories for a small chocolate milkshake from Sonic (you can find any of this stuff on Google). Sometimes I'll save my calories up and Paul and I will get one after work. In Texas it is NOT required to post or even know how many calories is in the food at a restaraunt. I asked my boss if he had a nutritional chart. He rolled his eyes and said, "C'mon Robin! This is Doc's!".
Um, long time no see! When are we going to go out and really eat some calories? We have not seen you all summer! I am calling you, soon!
Seriously! I went through a McFlurry phase. So YUMMY!
I remember the moment though that I discovered the nutritional (if it can even be called that)information for the McFlurry. I don't think I have had one since.
